Prompted by the destruction of the World Trade Center and the subsequent black-out of 2003, the New York City Department of Buildings has mandated what has come to be known as 'Local Law 26'. This law mandates that commercial buildings in the 5 boroughs of NYC must install photoluminesent pathway markers and signage in the stairways of New York City Class “C” Commercial buildings over 75 feet in height. The NYC Local Law 26 mandates that buildings of this type must be in compliance by July 1, 2006, or face fines and summonses. Other classifications of buildings (Hotel, Hospital, Nursing Home, Residential) over 75 feet in height are also on schedule to be mandated in the coming years.
Since NYC Local Law 26 went into effect, there has been an explosion in the number of firms entering the photo luminescent materials and safety compliance industry. As of today it is hard to find 4 or 5 business who still handle the sale and installation of NYC MEA approved photoluminescence material. GO with the leader SafeGlow and know that you will have a trusted and long term commitment to your building.
